ROOT CANAL

What is a root canal and why do I need one?

The main purpose of a root canal is to save your tooth. We use the Diolase ST laser during procedure to make the process as painless for the patient as possible.

Think of the roots of a tooth like roots of a tree. If the root of a tree is    damaged, the tree will not survive. The root of the tooth is made up of pulp,    which contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissues.

When the nerve becomes damaged or infected, it becomes weak and you can    start to feel pain and sensitivity in the tooth and surrounding gum area.

An infected tooth can lead to a potential abscess, which is very painful and    can cause bone damage around your tooth. If not treated, the abscess can   travel through the blood system and infect the brain, possibly causing death.

During a root canal, the pulp is removed from the root of your tooth

and then, the canal is sterilized and sealed off.

We believe that the best set of teeth a patient can have is their own teeth.  If the tooth cannot be saved, it needs to be extracted and an implant, bridge, or partial denture will be put in its place.
